What is Vitamin B (Niacinamide)?
Niacinamide offers effectiveness in the treatment of wrinkling, redness and blotchiness, sallowness and hyperpigmentation of the skin (age spots). Studies have shown that niacinamide or vitamin B has tremendous anti-aging effects.
In the mid-2000s, a randomized, placebo controlled, split face study was performed on thirty females who had wrinkles in the eye area. The test used a cosmetic that contained 4% niacinamide. The skin care product was applied on wrinkles of one side of the face for eight weeks and a control cosmetic that did not contain niacinamide was applied on the other side of the face.
The doctor evaluations and observations were obtained via physical examination and photographs based on preset guidelines. Roughness grade of skin was also examined. The results showed that skin surface was smoothed when using the product containing niacinamide. The cosmetic that contained niacinamide showed moderate improvement in 65% of the participants.xxiv . All participants tolerated treatment well with only one stopping the test due to minimal irritation. It was also ruled that the one person who presented minimal irritation may have applied other forms of treatment to the wrinkles, which may have caused the minor redness.
Recent studies show even more promising results in cosmetics that contain a heavier concentration of niacinamide. An effective serum uses vitamin B3 and peptides to strengthen the barrier of the skin, protecting the skin from environmental irritants such as pollutants and bacteria and preventing dehydration. Vitamin B3 also helps to prevent pigmentation and balances oil production. It strengthens the skin’s immunity and prevents inflammatory conditions.
10% niacinamide is the active ingredient needed to yield the best possible results for the skin.
In 2010, further results that niacinamide (vitamin B) improves aging facial skin appearance was presented. Women showing clinical signs of facial photoaging, fine lines, wrinkles, poor skin texture and hyperpigmented spots received treatment with this product. The results were significant.
Analyses of the data showed a variety of significant skin integrity and appearance improvements because of the topical use of niacinamide. The data confirmed previous studies of the effects of topical vitamin B and also presented additional effects. Research revealed that the appearance of skin wrinkles improved, yellowing disappeared and elasticity of the skin was improved.xxv
